AmeriCorps

The mission of the National Preparedness & Response Corps (NPRC) is to provide vital emergency assistance to communities affected by disasters and increase preparedness by way of community outreach and education through Red Cross service activities.

There are currently 17 different NPRC sites across the country in various Red Cross chapters, with Philadelphia going into their 13th year. NPRC members provide age-appropriate and culturally diverse Community Disaster Education presentations in high-risk areas in Philadelphia with a goal of increasing awareness and knowledge of disasters and other emergencies.

Corps members are a part of Disaster Action Teams (DAT) which provide immediate response to disasters. NPRC members will also respond to national disaster assignments as part of the American Red Cross DSHR system.

The NPRC members will participate in monthly service projects and member developments to increase their knowledge about themselves, their abilities, and the communities around them.
