Welcome to the October 2009 edition of the Emergency Services newsletter from the American Red Cross Southeastern Pennsylvania (SEPA) Chapter.

We have been doing a lot of celebrating lately. We're celebrating the end of our most ambitious National Preparedness Month for our Chapter, featuring nearly 80 activities geared to preparing our region for emergencies of all kinds.

And we're celebrating our outstanding volunteers. Our annual recognition event last month honored nearly 700 volunteers and supporters for their great work in service to the American Red Cross. Whether you volunteer on the scene of a disaster, on a fire safety walkthrough or for our Red Cross Clubs, we thank you for all you do.

All the best,

Tom Foley

Note from Tom Foley

The 2009 Annual Report takes as its theme "when the call comes in." It is our hope this report will give you insights into what goes on behind the scenes-who takes the call, what kinds of calls we get, who decides the nature and level of a Red Cross response, how we get people and supplies to a disaster scene, and more.

My thoughts as I hit the snooze button on my alarm clock on Labor Day focused on the holiday. I would be spending my time with the American Red Cross. No cooking out today; no BBQ today; the chef was tired!
